The 100% Alfa Romeo 2.9 V6 Bi-Turbo engine is the heart that powers the Quadrifoglio spirit. Engineered from a single piece of aluminium, the engine block is the base for provoking exceptional performance. Thanks to its uncharacteristically lightweight nature, the engine provides unrivaled power with surprising efficiency through the Alfa Cylinders Efficient Management (CEM).
The Q4 all-wheel-drive of the Stelvio Quadrifoglio features an Active Transfer Case, delivering both the security of all four-wheels gripping the road, and at the same time the performance of a rear-wheel-drive. The Q4 system distributes torque on demand, exactly when, where and how it's needed most. It sends 50% of the torque to the front-wheels, increasing stability and enhancing grip, to guarantee driving pleasure.
The Quadrifoglio models feature an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, calibrated to optimise fluidity and comfort so the vehicles can easily be driven on all terrains. The transmission also features a lock-up clutch to give the driver a powerful feeling of in-gear acceleration once the gear is engaged.
Depending on the mode chosen with the AlfaTM DNA Pro, the automatic transmission optimises the ride and handling in all contexts of use. The Quadrifoglio models are also incredibly efficient in terms of emission and fuel consumption, thanks to the electronically controlled cylinder deactivation system and the "sailing" function, available in Advanced Efficiency driving mode.In RACE mode the cars express their full potential with lightning-fast gear changes in only 150 milliseconds.
RACE Disables the stability and traction control, maximises performance and enhances the exhaust sound for driving on track.
DYNAMIC Modifies the engine shift mapping for sharper throttle response, delivers enhanced steering feedback and more reactive braking for ultimate road performance.
NATURAL Torque and suspension are calibrated for maximum efficiency and comfort for daily driving.
ADVANCED EFFICIENCY Engineered to maximise fuel efficiency and reduce emissions with functions like coasting and cylinder deactivation.
Each of the Quadrifoglio models are fitted with a range of systems designed to enhance the pleasure of driving, offering motorists the most authentic, engaging experience behind the wheel.
Alfa Chassis Domain Control (CDC) acts as the "brain" of the Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio, and coordinates all the car's electronic systems, to deliver the best performance and the utmost driving pleasure at all times. Specifically, the Alfa Chassis Domain Control system simultaneously manages and assigns specific tasks to the various active systems, such as the Alfa Active Torque Vectoring system, the Alfa Active Suspension system and the ESC, in accordance with the setting selected by the driver with the Alfa DNA Pro selector.
Alfa Active Torque Vectoring (ATV) optimises the Stelvio Quadrifoglio's drive distribution and accentuates its sporting character. Two electronically controlled clutches in the rear differential make it possible to control torque delivery to each wheel separately. This ensures the optimal transfer of power to the ground even when the car is pushed to its dynamic limits. This makes the Stelvio safe and fun to drive at all times, without recourse to intrusive inputs from the stability control system.
Integrated Brake System (IBS) combines stability control with a traditional servo brake to deliver instantaneous brake response and shorten stopping distances, while also making a significant contribution to weight optimisation. Carbon ceramic brake discs are also available as an option, offering both lighter weight (17kg less than the standard type) and greater mechanical strength, even at the highest temperatures, in both dry and wet conditions.
Alfa Active Suspension continually and actively controls the suspensions and shock absorbers to reduce movement of the body of the car in all driving conditions. It constantly interacts with the CDC and Alfa DNA Pro and "calibrates" its actions to suit the driving mode selected, delivering unrivalled comfort and handling. The Quadrifoglio models feature double wishbone front suspension with semi-virtual steering axis, with a patented four-and-a-half link multilink system at the rear.
The world class materials used throughout the entire model, including high-strength steel, carbon fibre and aluminium, create a lightweight vehicle with ideal 50-50 weight distribution for agility and precision.
The new 2020 model features LED rear light clusters with dark lenses and a new glossy black finish adorns the front trilobe and rear badges plus 21-inch alloy wheels for the first time on a Quadrifoglio.
Standard exterior features include;
Optional equipment choices include; 3 alloy wheel options, power sunroof, hands-free tailgate, black painted roofbars, Akrapovic exhaust system, carbon-ceramic brake discs and painted calipers in red / yellow / black.
The centre console of the current model has been redesigned to offer greater tactile and visual impact, while also providing more storage space. A new leather trimmed steering wheel and gear stick, as well as new perforated upholstery fitted with electric leather and Alcantara sports seats are provided as standard, and optional carbon shell Sparco seats are also available.
With the new Stelvio Quadrifoglio, the HMI has evolved into a system which is simple, user-friendly and intuitive. The 8.8-inch central display is now touchscreen and adopts an all-new layout with widgets which can be dragged and dropped to create a fully customisable homepage, in which each of the vehicle's functions becomes an app. So just horizontal scrolling calls up the access screens for Alfa DNA, radio, media, smartphone, navigation, climate control, connected services and ADAS. The driver can choose between the updated rotary knob or the touchscreen to control the new infotainment system.
Exclusively available on the Quadrifoglio models, the new Performance Pages show the temperatures of the main mechanical components, torque delivery, turbo pressure and power used, as well as digital chronometers to measure acceleration and maximum speed, allowing the driver to view performance levels and vehicle status in real time.
Standard interior equipment includes;
Optional items include; red or green seat belts, rear heated seats, carbonshell Sparco sports seats and Quadrifoglio leather and Alcantara steering wheel with carbon fibre inserts.
Introduced into the Stelvio Quadrifoglio are new Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), developed in conjunction with Bosch to offer level 2 autonomous driving. It leaves the pleasure of sitting behind the wheel intact, as it only intervenes to ensure total safety and to increase driver comfort in heavy traffic or on longer trips.
Level 2 autonomy, the highest level of autonomous driving currently permitted, is achieved by definition when the driver gives the car control of the accelerator, brakes and steering under certain conditions. The driver however must remain in control of the vehicle, by always keeping their hands on the steering wheel.
The main enabling technologies in the Quadrifoglio are:
Lane Keep Assist: detects whether the vehicle is veering off from its lane if one of the direction indicators has not been triggered, and advises the driver using visuals and haptics, with active intervention to steer the vehicle back into lane.
Active Blind Spot Assist: monitors rear blind spots but also reports any approaching vehicles and corrects steering to avoid a collision.
Active Cruise Control: automatically adjusts the car’s speed to maintain a safe distance from the vehicles in front. In conjunction with the traffic sign recognition system, this technology adjusts the speed to within the set limit, for a more comfortable drive. Fitted as standard to the Quadrifoglio models.
Traffic Sign Recognition and Intelligent Speed Control: this system uses the on-board camera, recognises traffic signs, reports them on the display, and alerts the driver to the current speed limit.The system therefore suggests the driver reduce their speed to the limit detected. If the driver accepts, the cruise control settings are automatically adjusted.
Traffic Jam Assist and Highway Assist: To complement Active Cruise Control, these features monitor lateral positioning, keeping the car in the middle of the lane in heavy traffic (Traffic Jam Assistant) or on the motorway (Highway Assist), while also adjusting the speed according to the current limits.
Driver Attention Assist: monitors driver drowsiness and triggers an alert if necessary.
